This page shows examples of my sound design work for picture, and all were completed as part of my Music Industry course. Each of the following video clips focuses on a specific aspect of sound for picture, with the exception of one, whether it be music production, foley recording, or sound effects.
Although I had the oppurtunity to use RMIT's computer labs for these assignments, at least 80% of the work done was in my own studio.
The following videos require the use of Quicktime, and may not work in all browsers*.

Tron - Sound Effects |
|
The first clip up is one of a few scenes from the 1982 move Tron.
The aim of this project was to focus purely on sound effects, no music or dialogue.
Almost all sound effects were sourced from a number of PC games, including DarkStar One, Doom 3, Starcraft and FEAR. Time-stretching was my friend for this one.
Arranged and mixed using Logic Pro 8 |

Toyota Commercial - Sound Effects & Music |
|
|
This clip is the "odd one out" as the brief required both music and sound effects together.
The idea of having music and sound was helpful during the production of this video, as it meant that I could "hide" behind the music track, and only add sound effects to the more "important" events in the advertisement.
Music arranged and mixed in Logic Pro 8, sound effects arranged in Pro Tools LE 7.4 |

Idiot Box - Dialogue & Sound Effects Foley |
|
|
The whole idea of this project was to actually record every sound and word used with a field recorder, while avoiding injury, damaging or property or accidental pregancy.
The recording stage of this was fun for all involved, except for the two computer monitors, which now rest in pieces, while cleaning up the resultant recordings was a little less so.
Recorded using a Marantz CompactFlash recorder & Rode NTG-2 Microphone, arranged and mixed in Pro Tools LE 7.4.

Where the Alley Ends - Music |
|
The final video project focused on the composition element of music production, and as such the sound effects were provided with the video clip.
This proved to be the most challenging of the sound design assignments, purely because I am not a composer and found it difficult to compose a piece to the "feelings" given in the brief. |
